River Continues Rising, Concerns Grow Along the Mississippi

ST. LOUIS, MO - Sandbagging is underway in several Mississippi River towns that are preparing for next week's crests.

The National Weather Service expects crests within a few feet of record levels starting next Wednesday at several locations in northern and central Missouri.  Particularly hard hit will be La Grange, a town of 1,000 near the Iowa border.

La Grange lacks a flood levee.  About 40 residents are expected to be displaced, and several businesses will be forced to temporarily close or move.  Highway 61 that runs through town is expected to close Saturday.

In St. Louis, the President Casino closed yesterday.  It isn't clear when it will re-open.
