JETS Gearing up for "Dump the Pump" Day

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - With high gas prices on nearly everyone's mind, the Jonesboro Economical Transportation System (JETS) formally announced today that it will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the third annual "Dump the Pump" Day on Thursday.  Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, the 2008 National Dump The Pump Day is an event that encourages people to ride public transporation to save money, conserve gasoline, and help reduce greenhouse gases.

"Throughout the United States, Americans are rediscovering public transportation in their efforts to counter high gas prices," said JETS Coordinator Steve Ewart.  "If gas prices are too high for you, then 'dump the pump' and take a bus on June 19."

According to JETS, households with two workers and one car that use public transportation save $6,200 ever year, compared to a household with no access to public transportation.
