Jogger Struck & Killed in NWA

GREENLAND, AR - Authorities say a jogger in northwest Arkansas was struck and killed by a driver who lost control of his truck and ran off the road.

The accident occured Saturday night when 23-year-old Shelby Ann Forbes of Fayetteville was struck by 51-year-old Phillip Wantland, Jr.  Forbes was jogging along Arkansas 265 a mile south of Greenland when she was struck.

Authorities say Wantland was driving northbound in his pickup when he ran off the road and struck Forbes.  According to police, Wantland then swerved left, crossed the center line and hit a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by 49-year-old Donna Myers of Prarie Grove.

Wantland was ejected from the truck.  Wantland and Myers were taken to a Fayetteville hospital, where they were listed in serious condition.  Forbes was pronounced dead Sunday morning.

State police say the investigation is ongoing.
