State Education Chief Elected Vice Chair of Regional Group

ATLANTA - Arkansas Education Commissioner T. Kenneth James has been elected vice chair of the Southern Regional Education Board.  James was elected to the post yesterday during the Atlanta-based SREB's annual meeting.

James, the state's top education official since 2004, has been on the SREB Board since 2005.  He succeeds Valerie A. Woodruff, Deleware secretary of education, as the vice chair.

Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine was elected chair of the Board, succeeding Governor Sonny Perdue of Georgia.

On its Web site, the SREB says it is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with leaders and policy-makers in 16 member states to improve education.
