Howell County Shooting, Stabbing

WEST PLAINS, MO (KAIT) - A Sunday evening domestic dispute left no one seriously injured, but included a bizarre series of events, including a sword attack and a gunshot wound to the hand.

Deputies were dispatched at about 11:06 p.m. Sunday evening on the report of  shooting.  While en route, Howell County Sheriff's Office was adviced that a second victim had called reporting he had been shot and stabbed.

When they arrived, they found a 51-year-old man who had been shot in the hand.  His 24-year-old son was at a house nearby with cuts on both hands.

According to reports taken by deputies, the father and son were arguing when the father attacked the son with a sword.  The son ran from the home and broke into a neighbor's residence, stealing a shotgun.  When the son confronted the father, however, he had a shotgun as well.

After several shots, it is believed that the father accidentally shot himself in the hand.  That was the only gunshot wound sustained.

The 51-year-old father was taken to a Springfield hospital by air and the son was transported to Ozarks Medical Center where he was treated and released.  The 24-year-old was then arrested and transported to Howell County Jail.
