Vandals Strike Community Center in Walnut Ridge

WALNUT RIDGE, AR - Police say a group of dance students preparing for a recital found the Walnut Ridge Community Center trashed when they arrived last weekend.

Authorities say there was profane graffiti on the stage, damage to equipment and costumes, trophies that were painted over, ruined decorations and urine and human feces in the seats.

"The place was methodically demolished," said Amber Hoffman, owner of the dance studio preparing for the recital.  Hoffman estimates that the vandals caused about $62,000 worth of damage to equipment and costumes owned by the studio.

Police have no suspects, but say evidence has been sent to the state Crime Laboratory for analysis.

The dance group is looking for another location to hold a recital Saturday.

"We're hoping someone will volunteer a building for us to use, but if we have to, we'll do it outside," Hoffman said.
