LITTLE ROCK, AR - Region 8's Forrest City Junior High School is one of only 43 schools from across the nation to be honored by former President Bill Clinton today.
A Florida elementary school that banished candy from its building and a New Jersey middle school that offers a student fitness club are among the other schools being recognized by Clinton for their anti-obesity efforts.
The former president plans to honor schools from a dozen states during a ceremony this morning at his presidential library in Little Rock. The schools are being recognized for their participation in the Healthy Schools Program, a joint initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association.
The program is supported by funding the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which has committed $28 million to the effort.
