LITTLE ROCK, AR - A federal appeals court has rejected an Arkansas death-row inmate's claims of serious errors in his second murder trial.
Judges on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at St. Louis found no merit in a wide-ranging appeal by Stacy Eugene Johnson, convicted of the 1993 slaying of Carol Heath. The three-judge panel's ruling against the 38-year-old leaves only the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his case, as he has exhausted all other appeals.
Heath was killed in April 1993 in her De Queen apartment. Her 6-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old son were home at the time.
Johnson, who is being held at the state's Varner unit, does not face a scheduled execution date.
