BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A man jailed in the slaying of his cousin's wife in Rogers has been charged with capital murder. Prosecutors accuse 22-year-old Sergio Morales-Carrera of the shooting death of Veronica Robles. Morales-Carrera was a house guest of his cousin Jose Carrera and his wife, Robles.
The couple had four children, who were home the evening of July 16th, when the shooting occurred. Jose Carrera wasn't home at the time. According to court documents, Morales-Carrera shot Robles several times in the head with a pistol, then fled in a pickup. Police found the pickup abandoned in Springdale the day after.
Morales-Carrera was arrested two days later, and police say he had the murder weapon with him. Morales-Carrera is scheduled for arraignment tomorrow in Benton County circuit court. He is being held without bail in the criminal case and is being held for federal immigration officials.
