Independence County Homicide Case Closed

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT)- In an Indepence County homicide investigation, a prelimnary autopsy report from the Arkansas State Crime Labatory elimantes any foul play in the death of 46-year old Phyllis Spain of Cross County.

Spains body was found a few weeks ago in a rice field near an oil trough early Sunday morning, August third.

Now investigators said there was no evidence of foul play, but were still considering the case a homicide until they received autopsy results from the state crime lab. Recent autopsy results reveal that Spain did die of natural causes.

Michael Doerhoff was with Spain when she died. He was arrested and taken into custody for charges not relating to her death. Indepenece County investgators now consider this a closed case.
