WEST MEMPHIS, AR (KAIT) - Police in West Memphis are investigating the city's first homicide of the year.

Friday evening at 10:35, 911 dispatchers received a call from Samuel Williams, asking that police be sent to his residence at 118 South 9th Street, because he had shot someone and the victim was in his driveway.  Police say Williams identified himself as well as the victim to the 911 operator.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Williams standing in front of his home holding a pistol.  He immediately surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Schequietta Bell, was found in the driveway suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the 57-year-old Williams and his victim were friends, and that Bell sometimes lived at the residence with Williams.  The shooting is believed to be the result of a domestic argument.

Police say Williams has no criminal history and is employed as a janitor at a local church.  He is charged with 1st Degree Murder and is due in court for a bond hearing this morning at 10 a.m.
