LITTLE ROCK, AR - The average price of gas in Arkansas has plunged nearly 40 cents from a month ago, when record-setting prices neared the $4 mark.
The AAA says that the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas Monday was $3.55, down two cents from a day before and 39 cents from a month ago. The national average was $3.74 a gallon, down a penny from a day earlier and 35 cents from a month ago.
With consumers cutting back on driving to save money, prices have now dropped 9 percent from the nationwide record $4.11 retail gas reached July 17.
Arkansas' average is still 88 cents more per gallon than it was a year ago.
Around the state, the Little Rock-North Little Rock and Fort Smith metropolitan area both reported the cheapest gas, averaging $3.51 a gallon. Texarkana had the highest average, at $3.55 a gallon.
