The World as Known to Incoming Freshmen

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Beloit College is out with its annual list of cultural landmarks showing the mindset of incoming freshmen.

For those roughly 18 years old, it's always been a digital world -- and Bret Favre (farv) has always been quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. Favre recently signed on with the New York Jets. One freshman says it's "almost crazy" to think Favre could retire "or be with another team."

Other cultural landmarks that have been around for as long as 18-year-olds can remember include karaoke machines, plastic soft drink bottles, Windows 3.0 and higher, and the Nintendo Game Boy. And they've only known Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show."

Cultural markers that draw blank stares include IBM typewriters, and gas station attendants who offer to check under the hood.
