Update: Alberto-Culver Celebrates Grand Opening in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Alberto-Culver company, a leading manufacturer of beauty and personal care products, this afternoon celebrated the official opening of its new manufacturing facility in east Jonesboro.

Several state, county, and city leaders were on hand at Alberto Culver to cut the red ribbon.

The new 475,000-square-foot facility in the Jonesboro Industrial Park actually began production in January, less than a year after breaking ground on Jan. 17, 2007.  The Jonesboro plant represents the company's largest facility, and represents an initial investment of $60 million.

The facility is now working in three shifts, five days per week, with some weekends available to support business needs, and employs approximately 200 full-time employees.  Additional temporary staff supports business peaks, and the facility is eventually expected to employ up to 400 workers.

Officials say Alberto Culver adds to the portfolios of wonderful companies in Northeast Arkasnas.

"A lot of people that work here live in communities 15 to 50 miles away.  The expansion of job opportunites and creation of manufacturing opportunites all over Jonesboro and Craighead County benefits the whole Northeast Arkansas region, said Arkansas Governor, Mike Beebe.

The initial investment was 60 million dollars.

Alberto-Culver products include TRESemme, Alberto VO5, Nexxus and St. Ives.
