Lake City Toddler Clinging To Life After Falling Into A Pool

LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) -- "At approximately 3:25 pm 9-11 dispatch received a call from Nana's House about the possible drowning of a 23 month old toddler," said Steve Chamness.

Steve Chamness is a police officer with the Lake City Police Department.

It was a race against time Friday afternoon with EMT's, Lake City Police Officers , and Craighead County Sheriff's Deputies doing everything they could to revive a 2 year old little girl that fell into a pool.

"I don't think that she had a heartbeat when she was pulled out of the pool," said Chamness.

At this point, police say it's still unclear how the little girl wandered from the day care where she was staying to the neighboring pool without anyone noticing.

It's also unclear how long the little girl was in the water before a neighbor pulled her out.

Emt's did CPR for nearly twenty minutes before taking her to a Jonebsoro hospital.

Later Friday afternoon, police say the young girl was holding her own and being airlifted to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Police say it's still too soon to determine what, if any, charges will be brought against the daycare owner, or the owner of the pool.

"We're going to keep on doing interviews and taking statements from Nana's House and the owners of the pool and just go from there," said Chamness.
