Jonesboro, AR - Will Carter Reports

First Jonesboro KISS Fans Convention

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Inside Jonesboro's Party Room was a family united under one name--KISS!

Dozens rolled in Friday night in full KISS attire.  Some even got KISSified while hanging out.

"It was sort of a spur of the moment thing.  A guy came in with face paint.  So, I was like, yeah, paint me up.  It's just kinda of a thing symbolizing you being a fan," said Shawn Watson.

The KISS family is not one that's small by any means.  For some this is their first convention, but for others this is life.

"You can be standing next to somebody, and the next thing you know, you're talking about this, or you're talking about that.  It's like you guys have known each other for 30 years," said Gary Thomas Hale.

Local organizer Gaylon Tyner says doing this for a good cause makes the KISS Fan Convention all worth while.

"It's the best of two worlds.  You get to help a needy organization, and everybody else gets to have a good time, but still not forget the reason that you are here," said Tyner.

There are dozens of items up for auction or purchase to help raise money for the Arkansas Children's Hospital.  On Friday night, KISS fans ended the night with a line-up of movies including favorite 'Detroit:  Rock City.'  As the convention rocks on, so will the family of fans.

"When I was younger, they were your superheroes.  You didn't play cowboys and indians.  You grabbed your tennis racquets, and put on your KISS records.  Then everybody would come down, and you'd have a big concert in your living room.  That's what being a fan of KISS is all about," said Tyner.

The Jonesboro KISS Fans Convention will be going on all day Saturday with murcandise for purchase, lots of KISS fans, an auction, and topping off the night is a tribute concert at 7:00p.m.

All events will be held in "The Party Room" next door to Main Street Pizza in downtown Jonesboro.
