Bootheel DTF, NEA Cops Make Huge Drug Bust

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Approximately $470,000 in methamphetamine, weapons, property and cash has been seized by law enforcement authorities from southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas.

The investigation was launched six months ago when a suspect pulled a "sawed-off" shotgun on two agents with the Bootheel Drug Task Force during a routine investigation.  A subsequent investigation by the ATF and Bootheel DTF led to numerous search warrants being served in both Dunklin and Pemiscot counties.  Information obtained led agents to discover "a large methamphetamine trafficking ring operating in Missouri and Arkansas.

Suspects arrested so far in the investigation include...

-Dennis Wheeler, 51, of Beaufort, MO.

-Ron C. Jefferson, 36, of Blytheville.

-Ward Harden, 48, of Kennett.

-Manuel Castaneda, 30, of Blytheville.

The investigation is continuing by the BDTF, ATF, Pemiscot, Dunklin County and Mississippi County Sheriff's Departments, Caruthersville, Hayti, Kennett and Blytheville police departments, and the Second Judicial District DTF.  More arrests are expected.
