Expansion Planned for Cache River NWR

WASHINGTON (KAIT) - U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln announced today that the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission has approved the purchase of land to expand the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge for the preservation and protection of migratory waterfowl.

"The Cache River National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most important areas for migratory waterfowl," Lincoln said.  "The corridor provides Arkansans and those visiting our state opportunities to hunt, fish, and observe wildlife.  The refuge is a critical part of Arkansas's economy and our way of life, and I'm pleased the Commission continues to expand our conservation efforts."

The acquired land, located in Woodruff County, will expand the refuge by 24 acres.  The acquisition will enhance efforts to conserve and restore the biological diversity of the Bayou DeView watershed and connect blocks of bottomland hardwoods along the migratory corridor.
