One Dead in Morning Storms in Region 8

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Strong winds caused by the remnants of tropical depression Ike have led to at least one fatality in Region 8 this morning.

The Poinsett County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that a man died near Fisher this morning when a tree blew down on a mobile home there.  Sheriff Larry Mills identified the victim as 29-year-old Nathan Glass.  The incident happened at Glass's home at 6540 Hwy. 214-East in Fisher, at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Mills says deputies are fanned out across the county at this time, but there are no other reports of deaths or injuries, or "major structural damage at this time."

No other details are available at this time, but Region 8 News has a crew en route to Fisher and will have more information as it becomes available.

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Tropical Depression Ike is blowing over trees and knocking out power across Region 8.  Emergency Management is asking everyone to stay indoors for the next few hours until the storm passes over.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory with wind gusts up to 60 mph.  At least one person was injured in Jonesboro when the storm blew a tree into a house.
