Former Baxter Co. Mayor Sentenced to Probation

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) - A former Briarcliff mayor will serve three years of probation after pleading no contest Thursday to forgery and theft charges.

David Schumm resigned as Briarcliff mayor in late February as the allegations arose. Prosecutors say Schumm wrote himself and his wife checks from city accounts. Deputies also say Schumm took 108 gallons of municipal gasoline for his personal use.

During a hearing in Baxter County Circuit Court, Schumm also was fined $500 and ordered to pay $470 court costs.

Schumm so far has made restitution to the city totaling $1,925.
