Hughes Teacher Beaten to Death with Bat

HUGHES, AR (KAIT) - Capital murder charges are expected to be filed against two Hughes residents accused in the fatal beating of a Hughes High School teacher.

The St. Francis County sheriff says 68-year-old James Carlton died Monday night at a Memphis hospital, as a result of injuries that he sustained when he was beaten and robbed inside his home in Hughes on September 24.  Carlton was reportedly attacked and beaten with a baseball bat.

The suspects are identified as 25-year-old James Washington and 27-year-old LaTasha Poney.  Washington and Poney are also charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property.
