Bootheel DTF Launches Fundraiser for Drug Dog

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Dept. and Bootheel Drug Task Force have launched a fundraising effort for the purpose of obtaining a new drug dog for the law enforcement organizations.

The sheriff's dept. lost it's K9 several years ago when the animal died after being struck by a car.  Since that time, the department has been without its own K9 services.

A fund has been set up at First State Bank and Trust locations in Caruthersville, Hayti and Portageville for persons wishing to donate to the cause.  Several other fundraisers are being planned and will be announced later.

Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says about $10,000 needs to be raised to cover the purchase cost for a dog, as well as training for a handler.
