JONESBORO--Like many, Larry Young suits up everyday to head off to the office, only Larry's office is in a tree. Larry's been a tree climber for 19 years and says he wouldn't do it any other way.
"I guess I'm just an adrenaline junkie," said Young. "I just love the adrenaline."
Larry started climbing and cutting when he was 18 and says it's something you have to get used to. For the last couple of years, he's worked for Ty Hardin and Hardin's Tree Service. He spends anywhere from 6 to 9 hours in the tree, roping off and cutting down limbs.
"It's not so bad, once you get used to it," said Young. "You just have to adjust yourself to the sway. It can be a little scarey on really winday days."
Watching the Hardin tree trimmers in action is pretty amazing. It's a lesson in dynamic phsyics as they caculate how to wrap the ropes and cut the limbs at just the right angle so they'll fall in just the right spot and not on someone's home or fence.
Ty Hardin says Young is one of the best and Hardin should know, he's been in the tree trimming business since the early 90's. Hardin has been on his own since 2004 and says his crew can take down any tree, anywhere, anytime. He says he's never turned down a job because of it's difficulty, he's known for taking on the tough jobs. Hardin says if he needs to, he's got the gear to put as many as 5 climbers in one tree.
