Steele Missouri Man Arrested for Child Abuse

STEELE, MO (KAIT) - A Steele, Missouri man is accused of child abuse after authorities find various wounds on his 5-year-old son.

27-year-old Trinity Joseph Shivers is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree (Class C Felony) with bond set at $50,000.

According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, deputies began their investigation November 18th when school authorities at South Pemiscot Schools noticed a small five-year-old child that appeared to have been physically abused in the facial area.

When authorities arrived and searched closer, they discovered that the child's injuries were worse than expected. The 5-year-old had been slapped several times in the face, bitten on the face multiple times and even kicked in the side of the chest.

Authorities say it was then that the father became their main suspect.

The father was located at his home on County Highway 489 South of Holland, Missouri. Pemiscot County investigators later interviewed the man who was then arrested and held in the Pemiscot County Justice Center, pending formal charges.

In addition to child endangerment, authorities expect additional charges to be filed against the father after a physical and forensic evaluation of the child and the evidence takes place in Cape Girardeau Thursday.
