Fire Destroys Region 8 Building, Firefighter Injured

MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT)- Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire Saturday afternoon in Marked Tree.

Police tell Region 8 News that the fire broke out on the corner of Frisco and Nathan Street around 2:30p.m at the Healing Word Worship Center.

Region 8 firemen pulled together to fight a fire at The Healing Word Worship Center in Marked Tree. Investigators believe the fire was caused by a flammable oil based paint used on the floors.

When firemen arrived on the scene there was no one inside of the building.  Tony Blackwood from the Trumann Fire Department tells Region 8 News that the roof of the building was completely caved in.

Michael Scott, owner of Scott Furniture Company had just moved into the building next door. "With thirty years of business we had moved we had just moved last month and we've got smoke damage but they saved my building," said Scott.

Mr. Scott tells Region 8 News, while his building did receive damage, he was happy that the entire building did not go up in flames. Chief Danny Johnson with Marked Tree Fire Department said there was one reported injury of a fireman that helped to put out the fire but we have no word yet on his condition.
