Fund Established for Poc. Wreck Fatality

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - A fund has been established for 31-year-old Raymond L. Weed who died in a wreck Sunday in Pocahontas.

The fund has been set up at First National Bank locations under the name of Sarah Weed or Heidi Skudlark.

We're told the money will be used to assist in funeral services for Weed. Region 8 News was also informed that Weed had no life insurance and that his wife is expecting another child.

Able individuals can donate at any First National Bank location.

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Two men are dead after crashing a green Ford Taurus into the Mansker Creek Bridge on Highway 115 on the edge of Pocahontas.

It happened Sunday night at about 7:30 p.m.

The driver, 31-year-old Raymond L. Weed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 22-year-old Michael Szweic, was transported to St. Bernards Medical Center where he later died as well.

Pocahontas Police Chief Chad Mulligan tells Region 8 News that the car came around a corner before the bridge when it lost control and slammed into the concrete banister. The car ended up in the creek, according to the police diagram.

Mulligan also said the road was slick and that may have been a big factor in the accident.
