Crop Effects

Arkansas -- This week's rainfall won't have much of an effect on the rice and cotton harvest except to delay it for a few days.

Arkansas extension service crop experts say rain has soaked some cotton locks, discoloring them. But a few days of sunshine should restore their whiteness.

Officials warn farmers not to get into the fields until the cotton has had enough time to dry out. Some staining could occur in the module because of the excess moisture, resulting in grade reductions.
