Fire Department Mourns One of It's Own.

TRUMANN (KAIT) The flags fly at half staff in front of the Trumann Fire Department.

One of their own has fallen.

Asst. Fire Chief Earnie Link, "He was a great guy. A great fireman. You couldn't ask him to do anything that he wouldn't do or try."

34 year old Todd Short will be missed at the fire department. His red pickup sits behind the truck that will carry him to his final rest. His turnouts hang waiting for the final call.

Link, "Todd was the kind of person that money didn't mean everything to him. He was happy to be doing this job. He enjoyed helping people in the community. He was that kind of person just wanted to help."

Short was an avid drag racer and he was the kind of guy you brought your stuff to when your vehicle was broke. Because he was a whiz as a mechanic.

Link, "Never charge you a dime. That's what Todd was. Just the kind of person that always wanted to help somebody. Never wanted any kind of gratitude out of it at all. "

Shorts death was the result of an apparent family dispute. Although alcohol has been mentioned as perhaps a cause. Link said Saturdays behavior was not normal for short.

Link, "Todd Short would have not done this here if he'd been anyway possible right mind. I don't know what caused his mind to be altered at all. I don't understand that. But no this wasn't Todd Short."

As a firefighter Todd left a lasting impression.

Link, "That Saturday night we was supposed to have our fire department Christmas party. And Todd was going to be presented the Trumann Fire Fighter of the year."

On Friday a fire engine will carry Todd to his funeral and burial.

Link, "He's just gonna be missed."

Shorts funeral arrangements have been set.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 on Thursday at the First Baptist church and from 5 to 9 for the public.

The funeral will be that following Friday at the First Baptist Church at 1:30 . Short will be laid to rest in the Nettleton Cemetery off Nettleton road.
