Former Arkansas Police Chief goes on Trial in February

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - Former Beebe police chief Don Inns is to be tried in February on a misdemeanor theft charge that followed from an investigation into how he ran his office.

Inns, 42, was fired Aug. 5, 2007, after Mayor Mike Robertson alleged Inns failed to serve an arrest warrant for a suspect in a marijuana possession case.

Inns was charged after an investigation by the Arkansas State Police into discrepancies in the department's drug purchase fund and in the evidence room at the police department.

An affidavit says a $150 rebate check for a computer purchased by the city was cashed by Inns on Aug. 4, 2007, and that Inns allegedly did not turn the money over to the city.

Trial is set for Feb. 2 in the Searcy division of White County District Court.
