Arson Investigated as Possible Hate Crime

Independence County, AR (KAIT) - A string of suspected arson fires in Independence County has authorities investigating the fires as possible hate crimes.

2 cars and a house have been burned in the past week, all within a block of each other. According to police, all 3 victims appear to be Hispanic. Although they say race is not the only link in the crimes. Investigators also say that all 3 victims work together at the same local poultry plant.

When Region 8 News arrived on scene, Crime Lab officials were still collecting evidence from the remains of the house fire Tuesday morning. No word yet on what caused that fire. No injuries were reported in any of the fires.

Region 8 News will continue tracking this story and bring you more updates, when they become available.
