Hardy Water Manager Court Date Set

HARDY, AR (KAIT) - The Hardy water manager accused of taking customers money and not paying their bills, resulting in the water being cut off, has been arrested and is due in court January 5th.

72-year-old Clifton Johnson is charged with theft of property and theft of services, two class B felonies. He is out of jail on a $1,500 bond.

Authorities say Biggers Bluff residents had been paying Johnson for water but Johnson deposited their checks into his bank account.

Detective Sgt. Ken Guidry wrote in the affidavit that after a subpoena was obtained, the bank account was found to have $24,657.23. At that time, the Batesville Daily Guard reported the city of Hardy was owed $14,366.46.

Johnson's court date is set for January 5.
