Wednesday Morning Outlook

Region 8 News is tracking a number of stories related to the winter blast and will have the latest coverage on Good Morning Region 8 starting at 5 a.m.

Meteorologist Sarah Tipton's forecast shows snow showers possible early, but road conditions are dependent on the temperature. In West Plains, the temperature is 16F while Jonesboro sits at 32F just before 5 a.m.

Road travel is not advised for either Northeast Arkansas or Southeast Missouri. Maps show almost all roads of the south half of Missouri to be covered in ice. Conditions improve considerably in Arkansas, but are still dangerous. Road Maps: Arkansas | Missouri

Another area of concern on most roadways are downed power lines and trees. In Jonesboro, roads are littered with tree limbs, downed trees and power lines across various areas. At 3 a.m., the train tracks on Gee Street near Dan Avenue were blocked off by two police cruisers, as a precaution due to a downed line across the tracks.

Region 8 News is also tracking the death of Trumann Police Chief Larry Blagg. Blagg was reportedly killed when a limb fell on him during clean-up efforts.

We're also tracking the widespread power outages. Thousands are waking up without power in Region 8. In Craighead County alone, reports estimate 35-40 thousand homes are without power. If you lose power, use Region8toGo.com to track school closings, weather and news from your mobile phone's Internet browser.
