ATKINS, Ark. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies say a 5-year-old Atkins boy is dead after his jumps on a bed dislodged a shotgun from a nearby rack, causing it to fall to the ground and fire.
Deputies say Hunter Allen Chronister suffered wounds to his lower abdomen in the Friday morning shooting at his grandfather's home.
Hunter was pronounced dead after arriving to a local hospital. Pope County Chief Deputy Coroner Doug Hottinger told the Russellville Courier that Hunter and another child were playing in a bedroom around 6 a.m. when the .410 shotgun fell to the ground and fired.
An investigation into the shooting is under way, but deputies say all indications point to the shooting being an accident. --- Information from: The Courier, http://www.couriernews.com
