PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

79 YEARS AGO TODAY PARAGOULD WAS ROCKED WHEN A RECORD BREAKING METEORITE STRUCK THE GROUND AT 4:08 AM.

AT THE TIME THE METEORITE WAS THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD WEIGHING IN AT 820 LBS.

THE MASS WAS ONE OF 2 PIECES RECOVERED WITH THE SMALLER ROCK...73 LBS...LANDING JUST A FEW MILES AWAY.

TODAY IT IS THE 4TH LARGEST AND IS CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY AT UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS.

THE MASS IS CURRENTLY ON LOAN TO THE UNIVERSITY FROM THE FIELD MUSEUM IN CHICAGO ILLINOIS.

PARAGOULD OFFICIALS WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE METEORITE RETURNED TO THE TOWN.
