NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Guns would be allowed in state parks and wildlife areas under handgun-related bills advancing in the Legislature.
Two measures were before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Their companions have been assigned to a similar committee in the Senate.
Rep. Janis Sontany voted against the bill allowing guns in state parks. The Nashville Democrat says she's concerned the legislation may eventually involve local parks, where there are playgrounds with children.
She says she voted against legislation last month that would allow guns in all parks and just wants "to be consistent."
