Tigers honored at Missouri State Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Tigers football team comes to the State Capitol to be honored by Gov. Jay Nixon and lawmakers.

The team finished No. 19 last year after a 30-23 overtime win over Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl.

Nixon spoke Wednesday to about 20 members of the team and coach Gary Pinkel and also posed for pictures.

Nixon, a University of Missouri-Columbia graduate, told the group: "We are, as a state, very proud of where you've lifted the program."

He later joked that he played several sports in high school but was only inducted into the school's hall of fame after it decided to consider factors besides athletic achievements.

The players were later honored in the House and the Senate.
