LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas-Little Rock hopes its 23 victories against Division I teams will carry enough weight to land the Trojans a bid in the NIT.
UALR lost 54-44 in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament to South Alabama, which fell to eventual champion Western Kentucky.
UALR coach Steve Shields says his team deserves a bid. In 2003, UALR was passed over for the NIT because 3 of its victories were against lower-division teams. This year, all 23 Trojan victories were against Division I opponents.
The Trojans will learn Sunday night whether they will get an NIT invitation. The bids will be announced after the NCAA Tournament announces the teams it has chosen.
