MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -Seniors in a Region 8 county just got some extra help.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas received a $1,000 grant from the Arkansas Community Foundation.
These funds will be used to benefit the Senior Food Pantry Program in Mississippi County.
Christie Jordan, CEO of the food bank, said its partner agencies who are key elements in the hunger relief elements in Northeast Arkansas.
“The food bank is only able to carry out our mission through collaboration with our partner agencies in our service area,” Jordan said. “We are very grateful to the Mississippi County Community Foundation for their support of our mission.”
The grant will allow the food bank to distribute food to seniors in the county through their partner agency, the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging.
Jordan said seniors are often working with limited financial resources. By providing them with nutritious food, their resources can be used to meet other needs such as utilities and medical care.
This grant money will help provide food to senior centers in Blytheville, Osceola, and Manila.
The Food Bank of NEA provides 113,000 meals a week to people at risk of hunger in 12 Region 8 counties.
