Local stores deal with Black Friday, prep for Small Business Saturday
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - As shoppers took stock of their deals and Black Friday drew to a close, several businesses in Region 8 reflected on what worked, what's new, and how they handled the busy day.
At chain stores like Academy Sports all the way to locally owned boutiques, something you can count on every year is a large crowd.
From traffic in the parking lot to foot traffic inside, Academy Sports in Jonesboro was packed consistently throughout the day.
Some of the hottest items this year were trampolines and gun safes.
And though Arkansas was recently named the most dangerous state when it comes to Black Friday violence, the store director said fortunately, their shoppers were just excited for the huge deals.
"We probably had close to 100 folks waiting this morning when we opened up at 5 a.m. and it's always exciting to see that they want to shop at Academy," Store Director Michael Glass said. "We have had a steady stream of people all day long, our foot traffic has been very good today, everybody seems to be in a great mood, and we're just really having a lot of fun."
Now, a locally-owned small business in Jonesboro also had big Black Friday sales.
But, Adara Boutique quickly set its sights on Small Business Saturday.
Preps for the weekend are a little different for a small business like Adara than they are for larger chain and department stores.
Typically having fewer employees and less inventory, Adara Boutique got stocked up and ready for one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
"We actually hired on a couple of extra girls to help out," Sales Representative Carrie Schoolfield said. "We ordered extra stock of trendy items, there's a lot of different things that all the boutiques are selling right now, and we just make sure that we have lots of that in small, medium, large, and curvy sizes."
Which means they have stock rooms full of boxes.
But with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, opening on Sunday throughout the holiday season, and on Cyber Monday, it’s inventory Adara knows they need.
