JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Red Wolves will be howling in the desert.
A source close to the football program told KAIT that Arkansas State will play in the Arizona Bowl. The Sun Belt made it official at 5:00pm.
A-State will play a Mountain West opponent on Saturday, December 29th in Tucson, Arizona. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:15pm Central Time, the game is televised on the CBS Sports Network.
Head coach Blake Anderson said the following in a statement: “We’re excited to continue our season at the Arizona Bowl. This will obviously be our first appearance in this bowl game, so it will give our team a new experience at a beautiful destination and stadium where we haven’t played before. We know we will face a great opponent that will present a tough challenge, but we’re looking forward to the opportunity to win our ninth game of the season.”
Vice Chancellor of Intercollegiate Athletics Terry Mohajir added: “This is another excellent opportunity for our guys to experience a great bowl setting against a strong opponent. In addition, it gives our alumni and fans attending the game more time to plan their trip to an outstanding destination."
The Red Wolves are going bowling for the 8th straight season. Boise State (17) is the only Group of 5 team with a longer bowl appearance streak than A-State. The Red Wolves bowl streak is longer than several Power 5 teams (USC, Auburn, Penn State, Iowa, Miami, Ohio State, Michigan).
Arkansas State finished the regular season 8-4. It’s the 6th time in the last 8 years that the Red Wolves have won at least 8 games in a season.
