JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - It's the season of giving, and that is exactly the spirit behind this year's Holiday Concert at Arkansas State University.
For the first time, the A-State Wind Ensemble partnered with the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
The collaboration brought holiday music for everyone to enjoy and collected donations for the food bank, because the cost of admission to the concert was a non-perishable food item or a monetary donation.
“In this holiday season, when we’re all counting our blessings and being very thankful for what we have, not everyone is as fortunate as we are,” Director of Bands Tim Oliver said. “This is an opportunity to hopefully assist others in our community who could need a little holiday cheer this time of year.”
Oliver said he didn't have a numerical goal of donations to raise, just a goal to raise awareness for those less fortunate.
"The holidays and music go hand in hand, they're very much intertwined," Oliver said. "So, to have the opportunity to be able to have a concert for the community as well as an opportunity to collaborate with the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas seemed like a great opportunity."
It was held in the Fowler Center's Riceland Hall.
And it featured holiday music like “White Christmas” and “Sleigh Ride.”
