LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT/KATV) - A police investigation finds “Rogue” wind the cause of a helicopter crash in August, not pilot error.

The Little Rock Police Department observation helicopter was idling on a flatbed trailer at a training center, blades spinning, when it was hit by a "rogue burst of strong wind" and began to hover.

It eventually crashed to the ground.

One witness told investigators that the conditions created a “perfect storm” was the beyond the pilot’s control.

According to police files, the crash knocked the pilot unconscious and reportedly could not remember what happened weeks later.

But following a police investigation that included several witness accounts, it was determined that wind was behind the crash.

A police spokesman did say today that the department had no plans to acquire a replacement helicopter.
