JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - In the last year, the city of Jonesboro has invested heavily in its parks, and now it’s focusing on the return from that investment.

Newly turfed fields, concrete walkways and updated lighting systems are just a few of the upgrades city officials said will put Jonesboro’s parks with the best in the state.

With over $2 million worth of work at Joe Mack Campbell and Southside Softball Complex just this year, the city is now developing a plan to market the renovated parks.

Director of Parks & Recreation Danny Kapales said the purpose is to draw more people and money into the area.

“Ultimately my goal is to be packed every night," Kaples said. "Every weekend I want to see the parks full. I want to see people with license plates from other states here. I just want to make sure that everybody knows that Jonesboro has the facilities to compete with anybody in the country.”

Kapales said it starts with forming partnerships with tournament coordinators from other cities and states.

This way they will participate in events here and then people from Region 8 will participate in their events.

The hope is to increase revenue coming in.
