HOXIE, AR (KAIT) - The Hoxie City Council met for their last meeting of the year, and the water/sewer audit was a topic on the agenda.

After an investigation in April, former Hoxie employee Keri Smith was accused of stealing over $20,000 from water customers.

Council members discussed the possibility of transferring funds from the general fund to help cover the water department shortfall until the money is paid back.

Mayor Lanny Tinker said the council is holding off on doing that until the next mayor takes office in January.

Tinker did say the money that was misappropriated is bonded, so the city will get it bay one way or another. However, it is still going through court proceedings.
