JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro city officials are asking for community input on how grant money should be used to benefit the city.

It's the Community Development Block Grant Program, funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Cities get money from the government based on population size.

So, Jonesboro has to develop an action plan of how they want to spend that money in 2019.

"The community coming to provide us input on where to fund and what is needed, that kind of gives us a view of what is actually needed in the community," Grant Program Manager Angy Abaunza said.

The city handed out surveys at the public hearings held Wednesday, Jan. 9.

They asked citizens to rank needs they see as most important, including homelessness, economic development, and infrastructure needs.

Abaunza said a goal of the city for 2019 is neighborhood revitalization.
