JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Last year, Arkansas voters approved casinos in four counties - Crittenden, Garland, Jefferson and Pope.
Specifically - that's Southland Gaming in West Memphis, Oaklawn in Hot Springs, somewhere around Pine Bluff and somewhere around Russellville.
An opposition group for a casino in Pope County recently sued to change the rules after voters approved it.
They may win and block the casino from opening there.
I say - if Russellville doesn't want it - let's give those jobs and tax dollars to a community who needs them.
Yes - there is the morality of gambling to consider - but from an economics standpoint - there are a lot of communities right here in Region 8 who would love to have all those jobs and the added tax dollars that come with casinos.
Maybe there's a city mayor or council member watching this editorial who wants to be the first city to start pushing for the casino to be relocated to their community.
Now, that is putting the cart miles in front of the horse - but the answer is always no if you don’t ask.
