POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - One local ministry has been doing a lot to give back to Region 8 by handing out food to thousands of people.

Holy Ghost Outreach Ministries Inc. has been doing this for over five years in Arkansas, and 10 in Missouri.

The ministry hands out hundreds of pounds of food to thousands of people at a time- and at no cost to the public.

Ministry member Jaime Tipton said the ministry started as a homeless ministry, but after noticing a need in the communities, the group started giving food to everyone.

“It’s free because God hasn’t forgotten about them. So many people are in distress, so when I see their faces and I see what God is blessing them with, I mean it brings me great joy to even be a part- that God would even choose us to even pass the food, just to be the messenger," said Tipton.

The ministry works with the food bank and Feeding America and buys the food through fundraisers.

Holy Ghost Outreach Ministries said they give food out at least every other week, and typically serve 1,500 people every time.

They say they expect to see even more people coming out with the current government shutdown, and any donations would help.

You can find out where the ministry will be handing out food by following them on Facebook.
