JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A woman is accused of going to an area bank and attempting to withdraw money that was linked to several check forgeries, according to Jonesboro police.
Valencia Latanya Rena Taylor was arrested on suspicion of theft greater than $5,000 but less than $25,000 after the investigation by Jonesboro police.
According to a probable cause affidavit in the case, Jonesboro police went to Regions Bank in the 3100-block of Southwest Drive on Nov. 19 after getting a call about forged checks.
“The manager of Regions advised that Valencia Taylor was currently in the bank attempting to withdraw money that was linked to several check forgeries. Prior to officers arrival, the manager asked Mrs. Taylor about the forged checks and her withdrawing $12,400 from the account,” the affidavit noted. “Mrs. Taylor told the manager that it wasn’t her problem and left the bank.”
Authorities said in the affidavit that bank officials provided documentation showing Taylor making withdrawals totaling $12,400.
“Regions Bank also provided information showing Mrs. Taylor’s associate depositing multiple checks from a closed account into his account and Mrs. Taylor’s account,” the affidavit noted. “Both suspects would then withdraw money before the checks were verified.”
A $3,500 bond was set for Taylor, who will appear in court March 22.
