Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Caitland Smith, Arkansas State, Senior
Smith continued her strong start to the season by winning the 60-meter and 200-meter dash at the Samford Invite. Smith clocked a meet record time of 7.46 to win the 60-meter dash, a Sun Belt leading time and the third-fastest in program history. In the 200-meter dash, she finished in a meet record 24.25 seconds and she continues to lead the league performance list.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Juliette Smith, Louisiana, Senior
Juliette Smith set a Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field indoor school-record in the women’s pentathlon to highlight the opening day of the 2019 Samford Indoor Multi. She scored 3,626 points to break the previous school mark (3,553) set by Kaitlyn Moreau in 2015. Her total gave her a finish of fourth overall in the 17-athlete field. Additionally, she placed second overall in the women’s shot put (38-3.25) and was fifth in both the 60-meter hurdles (8.97) and long jump (17-9.50). She added a sixth-place finish in the women’s 800-meter run (2:31.86) and was tied for eighth in the high jump (5-2.50). Smith’s 3,626 points are the top mark in the Sun Belt Conference and 10th overall in the nation.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Heinrich Herbst, Arkansas State, Senior
Herbst took first place honors in the 800-meter run at the Samford Invite with a time of 1:54.98. With that time, Herbst ranks third on the Sun Belt Conference Performance list.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Michael Carr, Arkansas State, Senior
Michael Carr recorded a personal-best and meet record pole vault of 5.32m (17-5.50) to win the Samford Invite. The clearance leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks him 14th on the NCAA list. The mark ranks him 10th on the indoor performance list at Arkansas State.
