Man arrested after drug found in apartment near school

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The search of an apartment near MicroSociety Magnet School in Jonesboro lands a man in jail on drug and gun charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators performed a search warrant on an apartment of Juan Lee Malone in the 200-block of Chestnut on Thursday.

While searching the kitchen area, investigators found a loaded Bryco 9mm pistol with 12 rounds in the magazine in the bottom of a refrigerator.

A digital scale with suspected cocaine residue was also found in the drawer.

Then, in a cabinet next to the refrigerator, investigators found a false compartment in a coffee can that contained 34 grams of suspected methamphetamine, two grams of suspected cocaine, and 42 suspected ecstasy pills, police said.

The affidavit stated that in the back of a couch, four small cellophane bags of suspected cocaine was found that weighed another gram.

In Malone’s bedroom, investigators found a box of sandwich bags as well as a box of 9mm ammunition.

They also found another digital scale with residue in the living room, along with $1,283.

The apartment is within 1,000 feet of MicroSociety Magnet School.

Malone appeared before a judge on Friday.

Probable cause was found to charge him with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of meth or cocaine with the propose to deliver, possession of meth or cocaine with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by certain persons, and possession of a schedule I or II substance not meth or cocaine with the intent to deliver.

His bond was set at $150,000. He is scheduled to appear back in court on March 22.
